In House Laboratory; CBC machine, Parvovirus Testing

We offer a small amount of in house testing including parvovirus testing as well as our CBC machine.

We have a limited range of in house tests we offer for blood work but are usually needed if/when we have an emergency case or surgery come in and results are needed right away.

We also offer the in house parvovirus testing.

What is Parvovirus?

Parvo is a highly contagious virus that can affect dogs of all ages, but unvaccinated dogs and puppies that are younger than four months old are at risk the most. This virus affects the gastrointestinal tract. The virus is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying and can survive in the environment for long periods of time.

Signs of Parvovirus?

Some symptoms include lethargy, abdominal pain/bloating, loss of appetite, fever or hyperthermia, vomiting, and bloody diarrhea which can often be severe. With persistent vomiting and diarrhea, the dog quickly becomes dehydrated, causing damage to the internal organs and septic shock.

If your dog presents to the vet and is experiencing bloody diarrhea with or without any of the other symptoms above, the veterinarian will likely run an ELISA antigen test in search of the virus’ antigen in your dog’s feces to 100% rule out parvovirus.
